2012 BioEASI K-12 Science Art Challenge

Have you heard of putting the "A" (for art) in STEM to get STEAM? Do you think science and art share a requirement for creativity  and innovation?

Inspire your students to discover new ways to look at science and the world by encouraging them to make a piece for BioEASI's 2012 "Science Art Challenge”. Students can express what they know about science in a creative way, and possibly even win a prize! This is a great opportunity for your students to show off their creativity and think about how science and art are interconnected.

All art must be sent electronically to admin@bioeasi.org by May 11, 2012* to allow ample time for judging and preparation.

*We've recently learned that the original deadline for submitting artwork to our K-12 Science Art Challenge conflicts with STAR testing.  To accommodate students taking this test, we are extending the deadline for submission until May 11th, 2012.

More information and specific requirements click here: http://www.bioeasi.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=159

Augmented Reality: Is It Real?

Augmented Reality (AR) is a new technology that's promising to change the way we interact with the world. The technology combines elements from the physical and the virtual world to create new experiences at home, in business, on the go, and in between. While we've heard about the exciting applications to come, few have materialized. But at this CommNexus consumer electronics SIG event, two companies actively involved in AR, Qualcomm and Wowwee, will show us the new products they are creating, talk about what's really coming, and discuss the challenges the technology faces. You'll have a chance to ask questions and learn much more.  Join us for this exciting introduction to Augmented Reality. It may change the you think about the virtual world and the real world.

Art and Science at the Athenaeum

Artwork by Roger Guillemin and his son le Corbeau will be presented together for the first time at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library  in La Jolla. Featuring abstract prints by La Jolla resident Roger Guillemin and allegorical bronze sculpture by New Jersey sculptor le Corbeau, the show offers the chance to see a parallel in two approaches to making art. The father has explored painting as a way that translates his scientific perspective, while the son has explored the science of making art in order to convey his. On view May 25 through June 16, 2012, Opening Reception on Friday, May 24, 6:30–8:30 p.m. (1008 Wall St. La Jolla, 92037) More info:press@ljathenaeum.org 858.454.5872
